Emergency Lockouts in Halifax

Locked out of your home, your car or your business, at any hour, is the job we're called out for most. The Little Locksmith is available 24 hours a day across Halifax and Calderdale, so whether it's the middle of the night, first thing in the morning or a Sunday afternoon, you can call and speak to a real, local locksmith rather than an answerphone.

When you call, tell us where you are and what's happened. If it's a lost key, a slammed door or a lock that's jammed, we'll bring the right tools for the job and head straight to you.

Non-Destructive Entry

Nobody wants a new door on top of an already stressful lockout. Wherever it's genuinely possible, we use proper locksmith techniques to open a locked door or window without drilling, forcing or otherwise damaging it, which is almost always quicker and cheaper than replacing a whole lock or door.

If a lock or door genuinely can't be opened without more forceful methods, for example if it's been deliberately sabotaged or is already badly damaged, we'll explain exactly why before doing anything, so you're never caught out.

  • Our default approach on every call
  • Avoids unnecessary damage & cost
  • Works on most standard doors
  • Explained honestly if it can't be used

Lock Changes & New Locks

There are plenty of good reasons to change a lock that has nothing to do with an emergency: moving into a new property, losing a key, a tenancy ending, or simply wanting better peace of mind. We supply and fit new locks and cylinders for front doors, back doors and internal doors, and can talk you through sensible options for your door type.

If you'd like a more secure cylinder fitted, for example after a spate of local break-ins or just because your current lock is getting old, ask us about upgrade options when you call.

  • New locks & cylinder upgrades
  • Moving-in & end-of-tenancy changes
  • Lost or duplicated key replacement
  • Straightforward advice on options

Lock Repairs

A key that snaps off in the barrel, a lock that's suddenly stiff, or a mechanism that's stopped catching properly are all common calls. Rather than assuming a whole new lock is needed, we take a look first: often a worn or damaged part can be repaired or replaced on the spot, which is quicker and less disruptive than a full lock change.

If a repair genuinely isn't practical, for example on a very old or badly worn lock, we'll say so and talk through a straightforward replacement instead.

  • Snapped key extraction
  • Stiff or sticking locks
  • Worn or damaged barrels
  • Repair assessed before replacement

Multi-point mechanisms

uPVC Door & Window Locks

Most modern front and back doors use a uPVC multi-point locking mechanism, which locks in several places at once when the handle is lifted. These mechanisms can wear out, seize up or fail to engage properly, which often shows up as a stiff handle, a door that won't lock, or a key that turns but doesn't seem to do anything.

We diagnose and repair uPVC door mechanisms and window locks, and where a mechanism is beyond a sensible repair, we'll fit a replacement that matches your door.

  • Multi-point mechanism repair
  • Stiff or dropped door handles
  • Window lock repair & replacement
  • uPVC & composite doors

Van & Commercial Security

Tradespeople and small businesses lose thousands of pounds of tools to van theft every year, and standard van locks are often an easy target. We fit extra security locks to van doors, giving your existing lock genuine backup rather than replacing it, and we handle other commercial lock security work too, from shop and unit doors to gates and shutters.

Call to talk through what you're trying to protect and we'll recommend something sensible for your vehicle or premises.

What affects the cost

What affects the price of a callout

Every job is different, so we don't quote a flat rate here. These are the main things that affect the price — call for a straightforward quote before anything starts.

Lock & door type

A standard cylinder is a different job to a multi-point uPVC mechanism or a commercial lock.

Time of day & urgency

An emergency call-out at 3am is a different job to a booked daytime visit.

Entry method needed

Non-destructive entry is usually quicker and cheaper than a forced or destructive method.

Parts & lock grade

A basic replacement cylinder costs less than a higher-security upgrade.
